Joining NAIOP’s mentor program has been a positive experience for both Bailey Collier and myself. Bailey and I have met several times, at the office, breakfast, out for drinks, and we recently played in the IREM golf outing together. Regardless of the setting the conversation has revolved around the different aspects of real estate that we are involved in – development, property management, and asset management as well as the issues that Bailey or I deal with in regard to vendors, tenants, leases and the like. We decided last night over a couple of beers that we both have benefited from this experience and we have used this opportunity to network, share ideas and talk about opportunities.
Neither Bailey nor I joined this program from a “deal” aspect, and the benefit of having a sounding board has been greatly beneficial to both of us. While it would be great to be able to impart some great wisdom about real estate to Bailey, she is very smart, and probably knows more about development than I do. We share a common thread in property management and in many ways we have a similar background. We both grew up with real estate – with a developer and an architect, and we share the same values, work ethic and attitude toward our positions and real estate. NAIOP has done a great job of matching us for this program, and we both look forward to continuing to share ideas and networking with others within the mentor program and NAIOP.
Based on how we did in the IREM tournament, I’m thinking that Bailey and I should be playing together in the NAIOP golf outing…
