Mike Riopel, Wangard Partners
John and I have been working together for some time on the Education and Programs Committee for NAIOP, so I was pleased to hear we would be paired together in the Mentorship program. The Mentorship program has provided a great opportunity for us to connect and converse beyond our responsibilities on the committee. I have learned that John is a very thoughtful and genuine person who is passionate about not only project design but also how projects may affect the surrounding campus, environment and neighborhood.
Our day to day job responsibilities likely don’t interact all that much, so I have enjoyed the unique opportunity to learn more about John’s passions, interests and hobbies. In fact, I believe he’s shown a certain prowess in the golf arena as evidenced by his recent victory at the NAIOP Master’s event! We are still early in the Mentorship program but I look forward to learning more about John and growing our mentor/mentee relationship.

I welcomed the idea of having Mike Riopel as a mentee.
First, he is an integral part of a successful and progressive commercial real estate development company, Wangard……so, he’s busy.
Second, with his background in real estate, economics and law, he brings a unique and valuable perspective to our discussions……so, he is respected.
And finally, he seems to appreciate the importance in preserving everyday life, such as discussing Milwaukee’s challenges, various sports, good restaurants,……so, he is human.
I look forward to continuing our discussions.
