Oak Creek is “Telling the right story”.
Members of NAIOP’s Public Affairs committee met today with Oak Creek Mayor Stephen Scaffidi. A graduate of Oak Creek High School and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Scaffidi became the Mayor of Oak Creek in 2012. Prior to becoming Mayor, he was an Alderman in Oak Creek and President of the Common Council. Upon entering office, he immediately saw the need to rebrand Oak Creek to “tell the right story” of his community. The rebranding included a complete new identity including a new logo, website and message. Oak Creek now has three major development initiatives that are reshaping the community:
- Drexel Town Square-a true “civic” development, DTS is called a “game changer” for Oak Creek. Scaffidi said that the partnership with NAIOP member Jerry Franke, Wispark LLC, was what got the DTS ball rolling.
- Oakview Business Park-a 220 acre development and the Milwaukee area’s newest business park. OBP is also a Wispark project.
- Lake Vista-deemed Oak Creek’s most exciting long-term story, LV is 260- acres of former industrial sites on Lake Michigan. Considerable contamination clean up and removal of old buildings has taken place to clear the way for future development.
Mayor Scaffidi has reached out to citizens of Oak Creek to help develop a vision for the community focusing on improving the lifestyle for residents. Additionally he sees Oak Creek playing a significant leadership role in moving Wisconsin forward.
On behalf of the NAIOP Board of Directors and Public Affairs Committee, we want to thank Mayor Scaffidi for sharing the Oak Creek story with us.
