Members of NAIOP’s Public Affairs Committee heard from guest speaker Wyman Winston, Executive Director for the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Association (WHEDA) on Tuesday. Mr. Winston was appointed to the position by Governor Walker in 2011. Much of his discussion with us focused on the Transform Milwaukee initiative which is a public-private partnership focusing on restoring economic prosperity to the industrial, residential andtransportation areas connecting the City of Milwaukee’s 30th Street Industrial Corridor, Menomonee Valley, Port of Milwaukee and the Aerotropolis, located south of General Mitchell International Airport. A few highlights of his presentation included:
- Transform Milwaukee initiative developed to revitalize Milwaukee’s industrial corridor and improve surrounding housing.

- Roughly 400 start-up companies are formed each year in Wisconsin vs. 3,500 that are estimated placing Wisconsin near the bottom in the United States.
- Milwaukee is one of the few big cities with a deep water port.
