Briefly tell us what you do: I am a civil engineer in the Land Development Services department. In short, we coordinate all the site work around a proposed project building – utilities, earthwork, site layout, storm water management, etc.
Which project do you love the most or are most proud of? Our department is well known for working on mall sites all around the US. As a lover of all things mall-related, those are definitely my favorite! They’re large scale projects that take a lot of teamwork and coordination over time, which is something I really enjoy.
Do you have a favorite author or quote? A quote that has recently really stuck with me is, “The most dangerous phrase in our language is, ‘We’ve always done it this way.'” This quote derived from a statement made by Grace Murray Hopper, who was a pioneer in the computer science industry in the 1970’s. I would love to see more people pursue life with this statement in mind.
What is your favorite restaurant? Living on the east side of downtown Milwaukee, I’m pretty spoiled with how many options of cuisine I have available to me. My favorite as of now is a little place called Blue Star Cafe. It’s a family owned restaurant that serves fresh Somali food – I recommend the vegetable platter dish!
Tell us something most people don’t know about you? My grandparents are Hungarian immigrants, who moved to the US in the 1950s. I’ve had the opportunity of visiting Hungary a couple times throughout my life, as much of my family still lives there. I’ve seen the villages each of my grandparents grew up in, heard the stories of the hard times throughout the wars, and learned the importance of knowing where your family comes from.
What are your hobbies outside of work? I love to be active, so I enjoy working out, playing tennis, biking, and running in races. Another big hobby of mine is cooking. I follow a vegan diet and lifestyle, so I love experimenting with different recipes and turning traditional recipes vegan-friendly. Lastly, I have a huge passion for traveling around the world. I am currently in the works of planning a trip to Southeast Asia at the end of 2016!
