Tell us about your business? What is your scope and/or expertise? How can you be a valuable partner with NAIOP-WI members? Pinnacle Engineering Group provides infrastructure and design services to the real estate development community to all market segments. We will always provide innovative civil design and interject creative ideas beyond normalized expectations for civil engineering. At all times, we seek to connect our clients with project opportunities. We understand; the better our clients perform, the more opportunities we have as a team. We measure success by the number of relationships we have fostered. We interpret our achievement through the millions and millions of square feet of development throughout multiple states and the fact we have participated in some of the largest developments in the Midwest.
We invest in today’s projects to be invited back for tomorrow’s opportunities. At the end of the day, quite honestly, we provide peace of mind. We are Pinnacle Engineering Group.
What is a project/deal/opportunity you are most proud of? Go ahead, brag a little (and we won’t complain if you share a story that involves a NAIOP connection)! I am especially proud of a 434,000 square foot (with expansion to over 1 million square feet) built-to-suit project for United Natural Foods Incorporated in the very early states of the formation of Pinnacle Engineering Group. The project went to RFP as a Design/Build delivery through an invite-only list comprised of some of the largest Design/Build contractors in the country. At that time, we were a firm of less that 10 total employees. Regardless, Pinnacle was requested/selected to participate exclusively to our team in the Proposal. As part of the pursuit, a detailed design package was required to support the Proposal.
As part of our involvement, we identified inefficiencies in the prototype site plan. We worked with our Design/Build partner to reformat the site plan to eliminate about $600,000 of site infrastructure from the prototype. The owner’s representative provided numerous discussions based on the site infrastructure cost allocations for our team were significantly lower than the other team’s proposals. Our infrastructure numbers were legitimate and served to help win the project for our team.
During the final design, the site infrastructure costs were further reduced. With such results, the owner’s representative asked us to participate in value engineering for several ongoing projects throughout the country and also to provide complete site infrastructure design for another facility outside of Minneapolis.
We truly pride ourselves on being heavily involved in the pursuit of projects.
Tell us about yourself… family, college, hometown, hobbies, when you started in the business, etc. Share something most people wouldn’t know about you. I was born, raised, and married a girl also from West Allis, WI. Most people do not realize that my wife Kelly and I are ‘surviving’ a business with 4 young kids and ‘one more bun in the oven.’ In addition to our kids, we also have the almost 40 Pinnacle member as our extended family. At this point in my life, my choice hobby is taking a nap but that is typically shunned in favor of shuttling our kids to their hobbies.
What are 3 things you would take with you to a deserted island? I would take 1) A genie in a bottle, seeing that I will foolishly waste my three wishes in the pursuit of enjoying my time stranded on the island, 2) a boat and 3) a fishing pole.
What is your (and your business) Twitter handle? Believe it or not – No Twitter, No Facebook. I do have a LinkedIn account but it gets neglected. Nothing for the business at this time, I think our director of social media is too busy researching the new Star Wards movie (joking of course, we don’t have a director of social media)!
